Fancy Folk

Recently we’ve had some fantastic folk come to Brighton, and we thought it would be nice to share it with you.

We couldn’t have picked a better venue (in our opinion) for Jim White’s show. With candles on tables and intimate surroundings, The Basement has never looked or sounded better, especially when Jim White graced the stage of course! Jim is a gifted storyteller, as he punctuated his set with anecdotes and jokes, which involved all of us in his world. Support from Paul Fonfara, an incredible clarinet player who layers up his songs with a loop sampler.

Always a treat to have Jim White play Brighton, come back soon Jim!

The lovely Emily Portman and her Trio played Komedia last Thursday, too. With their perfectly sweet harmonies and instruments, it was a really beautiful evening, with abit of a sing-along in parts. Portman was commendably supported by Ellie Ford on harp and acoustic guitar. This weekend Ellie recorded a session for BBC Introducing in Sussex. Definitely a name to watch out for.

Our next two shows are both sold out. So if you’re lucky to have tickets, we really hope you enjoy Johnny Flynn & The Sussex Wit at St George’s Church and the return of Dan Le Sac VS Scroobius Pip at Komedia!
