Melting Vinyl are excited to welcome East India Youth to the L1 Cafe Space at Bexhill De La Warr Pavillion in May.
East India Youth – who is responsible for the love-lorn synth pop of ‘Looking For Someone’ and the chemically-dazed rapture of ‘Heaven, How Long’ from the stunning ‘Hostel EP’– is actually one young man. William Doyle, a 22-year-old multi-instrumentalist from Bournemouth, cut his teeth in an indie group called The Fourfathers while still a teenager.
Being influenced by the likes of Brian Eno and the orchestral/electronic combinations of Bjork and Sufjan Stevens, East India Youth has shunned the pop song structure he once knew so well. His pulsing synth progressions draw you to his voice that ride through his live set as if on a wave about to break. When the wave does break you’re immersed in a wall of thrills and trickles that detail the driving distortion of the bass that move the body as if physically.
His live show is electric, Doyles ability to manipulate his synths and bass draws you in effortlessly and fulfils the audience. His transitions through his tracks are seemless and you’re left wondering how the track has developed to the heights
The music that he had created was absolutely astounding, an original mixture of dark Detroit techno, lo-fi psychedelic noise rock, deeply romantic Pet Shop Boys-esque synth pop and ramshackle avant-electronica. Having The NME give his debut album, ‘Total Strife Forever’, 8/10, East India Youth is a one hotly tipped.
