Create Music Festival in association with Revelation St Mary’s presents:
headlining the Revelation St. Mary;s stage.
Mark Morriss will be playing the Revelation St Mary’s stage at Create this year. We couldn’t resist this performer for the festival. Almost as musically old as Create, Mark Morris’, (front man for The Bluetones) first album was released the year after Create’s birth. Mark’s charamatsic indie melodies have made him a perfect solo artist and choice to woo us with twenty years worth of celebration.
Thirteen hit singles, three Top Ten albums and a collaboration with a national treasure later – as Mark is himself (the Maypoles/Matt Berry) – Mark Morriss remains creative and unique with an ability to sieve poetry from the colander of every day life.
It wasn’t until The Bluetones’ official split in 2011 did Mark Morriss seriously pursure a solo career. While one of these moves resulted in him writing the music for David Walliams’ (Little Britain) audio books, he was still writing songs.
Enter Mark’s latest album ‘A Flash of Darkness’ with its honest, confessional and cathartic edge, it also comes with tunes of tungsten-strength. The song ‘Guilty Again’ is a conscious nod to 70’s soft-rock icon Andrew Gold, while ‘This Is The Lie’ splices a jaunty sea shanty against some brutal self-analysis.
Mark has been busying himself with some of his other side projects and collaborations, including playing rhythm guitar for The Maypoles, the studio and touring band of Matt Berry (IT Crowd, Toast Of London, House Of Fools); a new album will also be released in June 2015 from Acid Jazz Records.
“more introspective, melancholic than his previous group, but that addiction to melody reigns supreme.” – Clash Music
