The festive season is now creeping up upon us, and to celebrate this Melting Vinyl are throwing a wonderful Xmas party at The Green Door Store with two brilliant up and coming bands and even more to be confirmed!

First up we have five-piece Brighton favourites (via Northampton and Switzerland) The Peppermint Beat Band, founded by brothers William Yates (singer) and Nicholas Yates (guitarist) in 2010. With line-up completed by organist Oliver Patrice Weder, bassist Alec Nash and drummer Martyn Lillyman, they make an exciting blend of rootsy folk rock and psychedelia, with a whorl of vertiginous guitar sounds, organ swirls and harmonies. Having headlined a tent at Brighton’s Playgroup Festival last year and a main stage performance at Scotland’s Eden Festival, they also took part in the El Collectivo arts festival in Madrid and supported Mani from The Stone Roses.
Their 2011 EP The Cold Room Sessions, meanwhile, was recorded in Oxford with former Ride singer turned ace producer Mark Gardener, and had MOJO magazine gushing about their “acid spiked pop.”

Next we’re excited to announce that Coves will also be joining us! Having only formed last year in Leamington Spa, singer Rebekah Wood and multi-instrumentalist John Rigardwere hand picked by Echo & the Bunnymen as their main tour support. They have also played shows with Hooray For Earth, Binary and remixed Post War Years.

The reaction to their EP, Cast A Shadow was received with high praise and leading radio support. Coves can count the likes of BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, Zane Lowe and Nick Grimshaw alongside, 6Music’s Lauren Laverne, Don Lettsnd and  our Brighton no-it-all friend The Recommender also has great things to say about them. They’re also M Magazine’s Featured Artist. Described as having “‘Indie Smash’ written all over it!” Coves are currently supporting Eugene McGuinness, we’re really looking forward to having them in our seaside town for our Xmas Party.

Also joining us is Melting Vinyl Favourite Tarq Bowen! Forging a sound which takes in folk, country and blues, with a style and delivery which has invited comparisons with Tim Buckley and Jim Morrison as well as calling to mind Johnny Cash and Ray Charles, Tarq Bowen is the definitive singer-songwriter with a vintage yet modern feel, creating music which doesn’t fit into genre categorization but which makes sense as soon as you hear it. With an energy-defying current one-man live set-up, aided by a self-crafted stomp box and appearances from harmonica and tambourine, together with some beautifully precise and lyrical slide guitar, this is a live artist not to be missed!

Tickets are just £5, however, bring along a ticket stub from a previous Melting Vinyl show and get in for half price!
