Having made waves with her early, lo-fi recordings, Nite Jewel, AKA LA resident Ramona Gonzalez, has taken a huge step forward with this year’s, One Second Of Love. Now signed to cult label Secretly Canadian and lauded by Pitchfork, this striking and more accessible release, Gonzalez’ new album has been picking up impressive reviews across the board, and drawing comparisons to everyone from Zola Jesus to Ariel Pink, St Vincent to Gary Numan. Synthesising the sounds of the late ‘80s and the best of ‘90s R&B with a unique, cerebral aesthetic, she’s produced one of the most exciting works of stylistic pick ‘n’ mix you’ll hear all year.
