Melting Vinyl is excited to announce that Sidi Touré will be playing Brighton in March!

Originally from Songhaï in Northern Mali, songwriter and guitarist Sidi Touré made waves in 2011 with his debut album Sahel Folk, released on Thrill Jockey. The album showcased his signature sound of blues-sounding guitar and vocal melisma, stemming from Songhaï blues. Touré’s second album Koïma, released last year, continued to garner him attention from the international community with the likes of Pitchfork, SPIN and NPR taking interest.

Touré’s latest album is titled Alafia, and it delves into the real-life political instabilities Mali has suffered from. Alafia was recorded between Nantes in France and Bamako in Mali, during the time Mali was struggling to maintain order following Islamic extremist occupation of the North regions. Touré addresses these issues in Alafia with a musical mixing of regional Malian styles such as Abarbaba, Takamba and Holley.

Touré has won the Mali National Bienale as best singer twice and has toured with bands such as Bassekou Kouyate and Tamikrest (who we put on last October). He continues to tour, and with the help of Thrill Jockey, has been introduced to a loving international audience.

Do not miss this amazing man!
