San Francisco Bay Area’s cult guitar-drum indie-rock duo Two Gallants return with their latest album ‘We Are Undone’.

Simplicity is key for the lo-fi blend of folk/indie rock duo from San Francisco, Two Gallants. Taking their name from a James Joyce short story, Adam Stephens (vocals/guitar/harmonica) and Tyson Vogel (drums/vocals) have been playing together as Two Gallants since 2002, sounding more like a dirty Southern folk act than their Bay Area origins may initially suggest.

While the duo have stayed true to the two-person format since their acclaimed 2004 debut, The Throes, their sound has evolved considerably over the intervening years. With their latest album We Are Undone, the band attempt to break free from the sonic limitations of a two-piece and have instead created a range of songs that attempt to make sense of the dramatically shifting social landscape of their home town; from the illusion of authenticity, impending environmental collapse, to romantic estrangement. Sonically, the thrash blues of songs (similar to ATO labelmates Alabama Shakes) such as “We Are Undone” and “Some Trouble” is balanced by the austerity of ballads such as “My Man Go” and “There’s So Much I Don’t Know.”

Having played at the likes of Bonnaroo Festival, Dour Festival; Two Gallants are set to return to the live scene this year along with a set at Shaky Knees Fesitval, sharing the stage with Neutral Milk Hotel, Wilco and Pixies.

“This stark, dark piece of Americana opens up with each listen” – The Telegraph ****

“In short, another first-rate album from a group that keep adding new facets without ignoring their past.” **** – All Music Guide
