It’s with great pleasure we can announce that in September, Beth Jeans Houghton will be returning to Brighton with her Hooves Of Destiny, for a special performance at The Haunt!
If her biography is to be believed, Beth Jeans Houghton was born in Transylvania to a pack of albino wolves, who raised her on chewing tobacco and stuffed clams. While there may be some poetic license going on there what we do know is that Beth’s debut album, Yours Truly, Cellophane Nose, introduces one of the most self-assured new artists of the year, a pop polymath whose blend of psychedelia, glam rock and chain gang folk is quite unlike anything else you’re likely to hear in 2012. Like her utterly unique stage outfits, it’s made from disparate individual elements that wouldn’t work on paper, but sing out like a holy choir in the execution – and anyone who caught her performance here last September can testify to what a frightening talent Beth Jeans Houghton is!
If, on the other hand, you’ve never seen Houghton and her Hooves before, expect the unexpected: her performances are always different, always unpredictable and always wildly entertaining, her between-song chat giving an eye into the slanted world explored further in her inspired lyrics. Beth is a true original and her Ben Hiller (Blur/Depeche Mode/Elbow) produced album one of the year’s finest debuts – be sure to catch her performance now before she blasts off into the alt-pop stratosphere.
