Patrick Fitzgerald is one of those musicians and g Patrick Fitzgerald is one of those musicians and gifted lyricists who really knows how to capture a person's heart and mind, and he plays the songs of Kitchens of Distinction and Stephen Hero (with special guests) at The Prince Albert, Brighton on Tuesday 16th September.

Performing solo under his own name for the first time in 30 years, Patrick Fitzgerald plays songs from previous incarnations, including legendary 1990s shoegaze pioneers Kitchens of Distinction and his introspective singer/songwriter solo act Stephen Hero. Patrick will be joined by special guests at each show to celebrate music from 1989-2025. Expect songs from old Kitchens dream-pop classics to heartfelt songs from his latest solo album Convalescence.

Patrick is one of those musicians and gifted lyricists who really knows how to capture a person's heart and mind. Thankfully he continues to do this...

For the Prince Albert evening show Patrick is delighted to be joined by composer, cellist and improviser Semay Wu and original Kitchens of Distinction guitarist and songwriter Julian Swales. This will be the first time in over 30 years that Patrick and Julian will have played live together.

Sharing the Running Order for this Sunday's 'eveni Sharing the Running Order for this Sunday's 'evening of sparkly indie-pop' ✨

Lightheaded @lightheadedband + Jeanines @jeaninesband + Dreamcoaster @dreamcoasterband + DJ Shaun Charman ( @jetstream_pony ) play The Prince Albert @theprincealbertbrighton #Brighton on Sunday 20th July.

Carrying on the long tradition of sentimental pop songwriters, U.S.'s Lightheaded distills decades of jangly, lovelorn tunes into sparkling sounds for modern softies. They have the sunshine sparkle of Margo Guryan, the C86 charm of Dolly Mixture, and the cinematic swell of Belle & Sebastian: a simple case of pure pop for now people.

The band have signed to Skep Wax records in the UK to release a new EP, Thinking Dreaming Scheming, their most collaborative and earnest release to date. Expect baroque pop that feels warm and dusty and adding to all the fun are the cameos and contributions from the new generation of New York indie pop goodness.

Jeanines - Alicia Jeanine and Jed Smith - have charted a distinctive course through the history of pop, evoking influences as varied as the 60s folk of early Fairport Convention and Vashti Bunyan, the sunshine pop of Margo Guryan and the post-Black Tambourine projects of Pam Berry.
Their new album, "How Long Can It Last," finds Jeanines combining richly melodic tunes with crisp arrangements and melodies and harmonies which are simply heavenly, elevating these economical songs to give each the feeling of a lost classic.

A sonic daydream of indie-pop delight, Dreamcoaster are Jane and Andrew Craig - a captivating duo promoting their forthcoming third album.

DJ Shaun Charman (Jetstream Pony) is a guitarist in Jetstream Pony, and the original drummer of The Wedding Present and The Popguns and joins us for summer's night of sparkly indie pop.

Exceptionally talented Canadian songwriter with a Exceptionally talented Canadian songwriter with a huge vocal range...

we're thrilled to present the 20th Anniversary Tour: Martha Wainwright @martha.wainwright - to celebrate the anniversary of her seminal debut studio album - at @thebookinghall Dover on Friday 29th August.

Twenty years ago, Martha Wainwright stepped out of her family’s illustrious shadow and announced herself to the world with her stunning debut album ‘Martha Wainwright’. Featuring ‘Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole’, a song about her father, ‘Factory’ and ‘When The Day Is Short’, it immediately proved she was a major talent.

“20 years ago my life as an artist took shape when my first record was released,” Martha recalls. “In many ways that record defined me, as well as launched me into a now over 20 year long career that has made me who I am. It was after 10 years of playing in bars, making cassettes and EPs to sell at my shows, singing backup for my brother Rufus, falling in love and out of love, practising, writing, singing until I could barely sing anymore, partying, playing with musicians and listening to great artists, working with my ex-husband in the studio for 2 years, all that created this first record.”

“20 years later, with 6 other albums under my belt, 2 kids and a career that is chugging along, I can safely say my first record paved my way forward. This tour features great musicians, where I’ll play the record in its entirety as well as a few new songs – there’s no 48 year old me without the 28 year old me.”

Martha has released seven critically-acclaimed studio albums. Wainwright is the daughter of musicians Kate McGarrigle and Loudon Wainwright III and the younger sister of singer–composer Rufus Wainwright. Her live performances have received critical praise, with The Telegraph writing that her concerts “leave in no doubt that she is a singular star.”

On May 23rd, [PIAS] released this album on vinyl for the very first time. This classic debut will also be released on CD and digital, with extra tracks and a bonus disc that features 14 rarities and alternate versions.

🎉 Support announcement 🎉 David Frampton @d 🎉 Support announcement 🎉

David Frampton @davidkframptonmusicandart supports Jackie-O Motherf***er at The Rosehill @the_rose_hill #Brighton on Thursday 28th August.

David creates beats and melodies mixed with live percussion and accapellas to create raw electronic soul, drone pop. He runs the label Eyeless Records @eyeless_records and records prolific material under his own name.
Live, he will be playing select songs from his catalogue, as well as tracks from his new album Ghost Pop!

Jackie-O “patiently unravel their source material's tangled threads, respooling them into wondrously evocative yet deeply personalised new devotionals.” ~ Pitchfork.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Jackie-O’s ‘Flags Of The Sacred Harp’, a re-imagining of traditional hymns and anthems from the original American songbook that was first published in 1844, @fire_records releases a double vinyl edition of this much-heralded work.

Jackie-O Motherf***er's music draws from a variety of subgenres including various folk musics of the world (American folk and blues, Traditional English folk ballads, etc.), drone, free jazz, psychedelia, and noise rock, and is heavily improvisational in its nature. Because they are a collective, rather than a consistent band or group, the sound of their music can change from performance to performance.

Glasgow psych-rock band @heliconglasgow1 + @kavus_ Glasgow psych-rock band @heliconglasgow1 + @kavus_torabi play The Hope & Ruin @thehopeandruin on Saturday 9th August.

Here's a remix of their ‘Château H’ single by @d.ross113 🏰

Helicon blend neo-psych-rock with sitars, electronica, ambient soundscapes and irresistible grooves to take psychedelic music into fresh, new territory.
They channel their love for 60s counter-culture and eclectic, global music influences to create a modern and distinctive sound.

“The difference between Helicon and other ‘psych’ bands is that they have actual songs. Beautifully crafted songs alongside the big psychedelic freakouts...”

Over the last few years, the band have been featured on BBC Radio 6 Music and previously collaborated on recordings with Tony Doogan (Mogwai), Will Carruthers (Spacemen 3, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Spiritualized, Dead Skeletons), Mark Gardener (Ride) and LA-based DJ/producer Al Lover.

"Helicon show that musical borders are there to be broken... A force to be reckoned with.” ~ Shindig

“I’ve been a fan since their early incarnation. Helicon have a recognisable sound but are always evolving, never afraid to try something new” ~ Martin Bulloch, Mogwai

A British-Iranian musician, composer, record label owner and radio broadcaster Kavus Torabi is a multi-instrumentalist, and is known for his work in the psychedelic, avant-garde rock field (primarily as a guitarist). Torabi was one of the founding members of the Monsoon Bassoon (as singer, guitarist and one of the two primary composers), was a member of the cult rock band Cardiacs, and fronts and plays guitar for the current lineup of legendary psychedelic band Gong.

PINS: Wild Nights Anniversary Tour play @theprince PINS: Wild Nights Anniversary Tour play @theprincealbertbrighton on Friday 19th September.

Manchester’s own PINS @wearepins - with danceable alternative post-punk transmissions - are set to embark on a highly anticipated UK tour this September to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of their critically acclaimed album Wild Nights.

Since the release of Girls Like Us in 2013, PINS have exuded strength in their danceable alternative post-punk transmissions and earned the trust, endorsement, and creative blessings of rock royalty such as Iggy Pop. 2015’s Wild Nights (Bella Union) was recorded and produced at Rancho De La Luna with Dave Catching (Eagles of Death Metal), attracted acclaim from Harpers Bazaar, Interview Magazine, The Guardian and Stereogum. They toured on both sides of the pond alongside everyone from Sleater-Kinney and Warpaint to Best Coast and The Subways.
2017 saw them unveil The Bad Thing EP preceded by the single “Aggrophobe” [feat. Iggy Pop].
Wild Nights marked a pivotal point for PINS and now, a decade later they are bringing the album to life once again. The tour will kick off in September 2025 and fans can expect a special setlist that includes all the fan favorites as well as a few surprises.

"Wild Nights took us on such a ride from recording it with Dave and Hayden at Rancho to ditching our jobs and touring it across the US, we were just young and free, it was so much fun. I loved how we would show up to a venue and people would know the words, want to dance with us on stage, want to party with us and show us their town, the music literally brought us together." - Faith

"Everything went crazy after Wild Nights and the past few years we’ve taken time out to have new experiences, work on other projects, and spend time with friends and family. We’re energised creatively and it feels great to be back in the practice room and heading out on tour. We’ve missed everyone!" - Lois

Taken from @nprmusic’s review of ‘Wine Dark Se Taken from @nprmusic’s review of ‘Wine Dark Sea’ by @joliehollandmusic:

“When she sings, Jolie Holland’s words come out warped and slurred, the notes bent sideways and raw at the edges. When she first emerged as a solo artist a decade ago, Holland set that eccentric delivery against dustily barren old-time arrangements that often made her sound as if she were echoing out of a transistor radio many decades ago. But these days, on the new Wine Dark Sea, she sets it against low, sullenly rumbling arrangements that sprawl and wander ambitiously across the sounds of blues, rock, jazz and soul... As such, Holland is that rare performer whose reach extends in many directions and dimensions without sacrificing her distinct core identity. Across eras and genres, tempos and tendencies, she sounds exactly like Jolie Holland and no one else.”

In response to the recent developments of Covid-19

Dear Melting Vinyl supporters,

At present we are in the process of finding out what the effect of the UK Government’s latest advice to the public to avoid contact in social spaces means in terms of our upcoming events.

It may mean some shows planned for the near future could be postponed to a later date in order to safeguard our local community.

Melting Vinyl are dedicated to supporting artists and the local live music venues and we are currently in close communication with both – we will keep you all updated as soon as any news comes in on our social media.

Many thanks for your patience and understanding and please bear with us as we navigate through this unprecedented time.

All the best,

Anna & The Team
