Paying homage to the original Penguin Cafe Orchest

Paying homage to the original Penguin Cafe Orchestra music...
with a beguiling blend of melodic instrumental pop absorbing influences of folk, minimalism, and world music.

Penguin Cafe: Performs Music From The Penguin Cafe Orchestra
@penguincafe_official at Quarterhouse, Folkestone @creativefstone on Friday 6th November.

Penguin Cafe was founded by Arthur Jeffes in 2009, bringing together a talented and disparate group of musicians initially to perform his father Simon Jeffes’ legacy of world-renowned PCO music, ten years after his untimely death in 1997. Arthur, a talented composer in his own right, quickly began to create new and unique genre-defying music, blending classical instruments like violins and cellos with unexpected elements like ukuleles and melodicas, the spellbinding philosophy of the Penguin Cafe always in his mind.

Penguin Cafe have released five studio albums of original music, four of which are released on Erased Tapes Records.

The current show ‘Penguin Cafe performs Music from the Penguin Cafe Orchestra’ pays homage to the original PCO music featuring performances of classic compositions that have been captivating listeners for decades. Audiences can expect to hear beloved works like ‘Music from a Found Harmonium’ and ‘Perpetuum Mobile’ delivered with the ensemble’s signature warmth and inventiveness. This tour not only celebrates the enduring legacy of the Penguin Cafe Orchestra but also showcases the continued evolution of their sound under Arthur Jeffes direction. To commemorate the tour Universal Music has re-released all of the original PCO albums on limited edition Vinyl, and the original iconic PCO album cover paintings by Emily Young are available to own as limited edition art prints for the first time.

Outside of Penguin Cafe, Arthur’s composition work has included several shorts and commissions. He worked with Greenpeace and Aardman Animations to compose the soundtrack for Turtle Journey, released in 2020 to high acclaim, to promote the Greenpeace ‘Protect the Ocean’ campaign.

A haunting and dramatic live score - befitting this silent-era classic.

Melting Vinyl & CINECITY presents:
The Phantom Of The Opera (1925) with live score written and performed by Andrew Wasylyk @a_wasylyk & Tommy Perman at Fabrica @fabricagallery Brighton on Fri 13th Nov.

For this very special screening and performance, Scottish composers Andrew Wasylyk and Tommy Perman have created a new haunting and dramatic score befitting this silent-era classic.
There's is very much a present-day approach, navigating opera, neo-classical, acoustic and electronic instruments with elements of sound design.

Having released their first collaborative album, ‘Ash Grey And The Gull Glides On’, in 2024 to critical acclaim and a Scottish Album Of The Year Award nomination, the pair come together once more to celebrate an iconic piece of cinema history through their new accompanying soundtrack album, ‘House With A Curse’.

One of the earliest horror masterpieces, 1925’s ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ is the first film adaptation of Gaston Leroux’s 1910 novel and ranks among the greatest horror films of the silent era. Filled with opulent costumes, extravagant sets and hundreds of extras, the film made dazzling early use of Technicolour.

"𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘰𝘥𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘈𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘢..."

Jason Ringenberg @jasonringenbergmusic + special guests play The Greys @thegreysfreehouse Brighton
on Monday 24th May.

Americana Music Association Lifetime Achievement Award-winning punk roots singer-songwriter, performer, and barnstorming force of nature… Jason Ringenberg was born and raised on an Illinois hog farm that bordered the Rock Island Line Railroad. He left for Nashville on July 4, 1981, to pursue his dream of “𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘣𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘬𝘪𝘤𝘬 𝘈𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘳𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘴 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘤 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘯 𝘢𝘨𝘦.”

Little did he know just how far the kick would travel. Throughout the 1980s and 90s his band Jason and the Scorchers tore up venues across the planet and became known as one of the most exciting live bands in music, and “𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦-𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘥𝘭𝘺 𝘳𝘦𝘸𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘬 ‘𝘯 𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘭 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩” (Rolling Stone). In 2008 they were awarded the Americana Music Association Lifetime Achievement Award for Performance. The band has an exhibit in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

But Ringenberg’s story does not stop there. In 1992 the “𝘎𝘰𝘥𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘈𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘢” (Mojo) decided to go solo. He has released seven records, with everyone from the BBC to USA TODAY lauding his songwriting. Touring the world relentlessly as a solo barnstormer, The Times (UK) called him “𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.”

In 2017 the U.S. National Park Service invited him to be their Artist-in-Residence at Sequoia Kings Canyon National Park. He spent a month hiking the mountains and writing songs. That explosion of creativity yielded two career-defining records: Stand Tall In and now his newest release, Rhinestoned.

So don’t go to his concerts expecting to see a sensitive singer-songwriter sitting on a stool. With his acoustic guitar and high-energy charisma, he WILL rock the house.

Blending poetic songwriting with a cinematic acoustic sound, the band’s ‘folk noir’ style has won over audiences across the UK.

Stateside radical folk artist with chutzpah.
New show 📣

Carsie Blanton @carsieblanton + special guests play Komedia, Brighton (main space) @komedia_brighton
on Wednesday 7th April.

Carsie Blanton is a songwriter with hooks, chutzpah, and revolutionary optimism. A radical folk artist in the tradition of Woody Guthrie, her infectious melodies and lyrical wit keep listeners rapt while she conjures spirits of vaudeville, campfire singalongs, and punk rock. Blanton and her road-tested band deploy humour, camaraderie, and considerable musical muscle to enrol each audience in a rare vision of hope and solidarity.

In addition to writing and performing music, Carsie works as a political organiser and activist. In the autumn of 2025, she participated in the Global Sumud Flotilla, a direct action to bring humanitarian aid to Gaza by sailboat. In early October, after a month at sea, she was imprisoned in Israel for five days along with hundreds of her comrades. Soon after, Blanton released The Little Flame, a song of solidarity covered widely on social media during her detention. The Little Flame features background vocals from Irish band Ye Vagabonds and Carsie’s Palestinian/New Zealander prison-mate Rana Hamida, and appears on her latest album, The Red Album Vol II.

After two decades spent on the road, Blanton has amassed a dedicated fan base and a small menagerie of viral hits, and regularly sells out mid-size venues across the U.S. and Europe. In 2026, she toured heavily with her own band and in collaboration with Canadian folk-punk rabble-rousers The Burning Hell, while continuing her organising work with Artists Against Apartheid and the Party for Socialism and Liberation.
