MEMORIALS are Verity Susman (Electrelane) and Matthew Simms (Wire, Better Corners, It Hugs Back, Uuuu, Fitted). The duo channel the spirit of free jazz to create cosmic journeys through the garden shed into psychedelic rock, far out folk and wild analogue electronics, drawing comparisons to Broadcast, Portishead and The Velvet Underground.

They originally met as part of the Too Pure label in the late 2000s when Verity’s Electrelane rubbed shoulders with Matthew’s It Hugs Back, his band prior to joining influential post-punk band Wire as guitarist.

As multi-instrumentalists they have honed their sound for live shows as a duo, juggling instruments in a set-up resembling that of a 5-piece band and live looping on a reel-to-reel tape machine. Their music is incredibly varied yet retains its own distinctive identity and is produced entirely by the two in their own studio, utilising analogue recording techniques, tape machines and vintage effects.

“Kaleidoscopic art-pop and adventurouspsych-rock with an immersive, experimentalaura” – KEXP

“From baroque’60s acid pop to Can-esque pounding krautrock to heavy psych” – BrooklynVegan

“Embodying the polarities of avant-garde and classic songwriting” – Under The Radar

Lello – Noisy, cinematic post-punk inspired by local cowboys, big hair and shrinking chip shop portions. Sax/bass/drums trio.
