May Shows
In May, we’re looking forward to disco music (Intellectual pop); warped pop melodies; fingerpicking guitar craft; noir Americana; ambient, melodic techno; and more.
Wednesday 6th May
Aircooled + special guests at The Green Door Store
Aircooled pulls off the rare trick of making music that thrills ravers as much as it does heads. From warm, enveloping kraut rock to spiralling, glossy space odysseys and pure-hearted pop, it’s disco music for smart people.
FRIDAY 8th May
Pictish Trail + special guests at A L P H A B E T
These shows bring the new songs to life in bold, expansive form – rhythmic, euphoric and immersive, balancing motorik pulse with warped pop melody and raw emotional release.
Saturday 9th May
Michael McGovern + Scott C. Park at The Folklore Rooms – SOLD OUT
Michael McGovern is a Glasgow-born singer-songwriter whose poetic lyrics and fingerpicked nylon-string guitar craft a deeply emotional folk sound.
Scott C. Park delivers catchy slacker-indie confessionals that are razor-sharp, loose and swaggering all at once, with powerful walls of vocal harmonies and guitar solos that hold on for dear life.
Thursday 28th May
BUNKR album launch + Simon Heartfield + Songe at A L P H A B E T
Drawing inspiration from electronica, ambient, melodic techno, and the mysteries of the cosmos, Brighton-based musician and producer James Dean channels these influences into his work under the BUNKR alias.
“Simon Heartfield‘s music and visuals are deep, emotive pieces, reminiscent of Chris & Cosey and Coil, whilst still showing a crisp contemporary edge” ~ PLEX London
Songe is an Anglo-French duo, Brighton-based performers on an ambient journey exploring the full breadth of the electronica genre.
Thursday 28th May
The Handsome Family
Following a sold-out Komedia gig, we’re very happy that The Handsome Family has chosen to return with a Melting Vinyl show, as part of their forthcoming tour to mark the reissue of their landmark album Singing Bones.
Led by husband-and-wife duo Brett and Rennie Sparks, The Handsome Family have long occupied a world of their own, blending alt-country, gothic Americana and desert noir into something both eerie and strangely beautiful. Written after their move to New Mexico, Singing Bones remains one of their defining works: a record steeped in dust, myth and the supernatural.
