HELEN (Marketing & Booking)

Top 5 albums of 2015
Culture of Volume by East India Youth
Continuing expansion of sounds and ideas in the EIY palette; challenging the so-called boundary between the commercial and the experimental (I don’t think there is one).

Architect by C Duncan
A different world is entered with this album. A glistening, mirage-esque sonic escape.

Divers by Joanna Newsom
Joanna Newsom can do no wrong. Divers is maybe the least “metaphorical”, and also most certainly her shortest album to date, but none of that takes away from her lyrical genius and musical prowess, and in fact distills it into a concentrated, magical juice.

Carrie & Lowell by Sufjan Stevens
Again, another artist who has reduced the conceptual for the more direct and personal. ‘Blue Bucket of Gold’ is a beautiful song, and when performed live its ending is turned into a ten minute drone outro, yes.

Have You In My Wilderness by Julia Holter
This is definitely not the year for concept albums, Julia Holter has also created an album that is more personal in nature, each song a snapshot of a particular mood, shrouded in a smoky, shimmering vision. No other song makes me feel how ‘Feel You’ makes me feel.
