Resident’s records of the year!

The much-loved Brighton indie music store, Resident, has released their top 100 albums of 2013 and we’re really happy to have many of our acts featured on it.

The politically-aware Northern Malian band, Tamikrest, is featured at number 8 in Resident’s list for World music, with their album Chatma (glitterbeat). We put Tamikrest on last month at the Komedia and it was a captivating performance, incorporating traditional African music with Western pop and rock styles whilst singing in Tamashek!

Laura Veirs is in at number 78 with her latest album Warp & Weft (Bella Union). She played for Melting Vinyl at the Komedia earlier this month. Veirs combines lush instrumentation with some, at times, dark themes. It is a lovely contrast that makes her always such an endearing artist to witness live.
