One of the world’s most accomplished and prolific multi-instrumentalists comes to the Theatre Royal for an exclusive performance!

Since beginning his recording career in 1997, Andrew Bird has released eleven albums, winning praise from Esquire, the New York Times Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, NPR, Rolling Stone, Spin, and many others along the way. Having picked up his first violin at the age of 4, Bird has explored a great number of creative paths since, and cultivated a fine reputation with his distinctive live performances, each show unique and remarkable.

It’s fitting that, though classically trained, Bird now opts to play his violin in a most unconventional manner, accompanying himself on glockenspiel and guitar and adding singing and whistling to the equation, passages of violin, guitar, voice and glockenspiel looped and layered to forge a texture of definitive hooks and rhythms.

With a new full-length, Break It Yourself, released this year via Bella Union, 2012 looks to be another busy one for Andrew Bird – make sure you don’t miss this, one of only a handful of UK dates!

‘He’s the Suzuki-trained violinist with an astonishing whistle; the musical chameleon as at ease with jazz as he is with folk and pop. There’s no doubting his genius… Bewitching.’ The Guardian

‘Most of the time his violin is plugged into electronics that let him loop and overlay parts into nimble polyphony that can sound Baroque, Brazilian, jazzy or Minimalist… Assured, self-conscious, precise and forlorn.’  Time Out New York

‘New album Break It Yourself Out 5th March on Bella Union’
