Following a string of sold out shows across the UK, experimental Folk virtuoso, David Thomas Broughton will be making a visit to Brighton this June, for a special performance at the Blind Tiger Club!
One of the UK’s best kept secrets, Broughton’s distinctive strain of experimental folk has been the subject of much critical admiration and helped him to build up a significant cult following. Having played large scale events like Green Man and Primavera and released a string of impressive, often improvised records, he’s developed a live reputation that’s second to none, creating walls of noise and layers of beauty interweave and delight at every turn.
With last year’s Outbreeding, bringing his music to even more new ears, the limelight-shirking Broughton has carved out a fine niche for himself, and his upcoming record promises to be his finest yet.
There really is no one else quite like him, so make sure you don’t miss out on what promises to be a night to remember!
“If you have a heart, Outbreeding will put it through the gauntlet. If you have a brain, Outbreeding will make you use it. It’s a perfectly weighted exhibition of its creator’s talents and capacity, both fulfilled. Yet, we know that it is not his first great work and almost certainly won’t be his last, but that bar is just a tiny amount higher.” Drowned In Sound
“It’s Broughton’s imaginativeness as an improviser and experimenter that inject this music with genuine strangeness and beauty: buzzing electronic interference and feedback intensify the pathos of the pieces, and his penchant for wandering among the crowd heightens the performance’s sense of dramatic ambiguity.” The Skinny
