Laish is the songwriting name for Danny Green, former Brighton resident and member of the legendary Willkommen Collective; he returns to Brighton for a headline show.
Blessed with a rich and affecting voice – comparisons include The Divine Comedy, Bill Callahan, James Yorkston – and a distinctive way with songwriting and arrangements, his third album, Pendulum Swing, released on the French Talitres label, has received an overwhelming response.

“This is a great pop record” Steve Lamacq, 6Music
“Pendulum Swing already ranks among the great records, not only of the past year, but of the current decade.” Indie Rock
“A set of emotionally rich and beautiful songs” Brighton’s Finest
“Beautiful and hypnotic” Tom Robinson, 6 Music
“Super catchy, making for a really interesting, sophisticated and splendid new discovery.” Chris Hawkins, 6 Music

Laish have toured UK and Europe extensively, performing at some of the most prestigious venues and festivals including End of the Road, Union Chapel, Roundhouse, Larmer Tree, Cambridge Folk and Barbican. Laish are known for energetic, joyous and cathartic live shows. For this performance – the first full band Laish show in Brighton since 2013 – Danny will be bringing his full 7 piece band. Expect lush arrangements, strings, harmonies and a set with many surprises.

Emma Gatrill

Emma Gatrill is a multi-instrumentalist based in Brighton, UK. Her debut, 2012’s Chapter I, was a poignant collection of songs based around her then-latest acquisition – the harp. Subtly accompanied by various members of Brighton’s Willkommen Collective, her intricate harp playing coupled with a unique vocal fragility drew comparisons to Björk and Joni Mitchell as well as her friends and co-conspirators Rachael Dadd and Rozi Plain.
