Robert Wyatt Special
An evening with Marcus O’Dair, dedicated to the musician, songwriter and national treasure Robert Wyatt (Soft Machine).
Robert Wyatt is quite rightly described as a national treasure. One of the founding members of the Soft Machine, he has had a solo career spanning 50 years and collaborated with everyone from Bjork to Brian Eno. While an accident left him wheelchair bound and unable to drum, his songwriting and mellifluous voice have inspired bands from Brighton’s Grasscut, Oddfellow’s Casino and Crayola Lectern to Radiohead. The event will be celebration of Wyatt in song, film and stories by his biographer and musical collaborator, Marcus O’Dair.
O’Dair is the author of the recently published biography of Wyatt, ‘Different Every Time’, a Book of the Week on Radio 4 and a book of the year in the Guardian, the Independent, the Times, the Sunday Times, the Evening Standard and Uncut magazine. He is also a journalist, broadcaster and lecturer, and one half of Grasscut, shortly to release their third album on Lo Recordings. The night includes music, stories, film and an audience
