Big big BIG news/announcements/other lovely things!

Yes you read that right. Announcements – Plural. Not one, or two, or even three.. we have FOUR brilliant new announcements for you this week, and here they are..

Sub Pop’s jangly, poppy, guitar group JAILL (yes, two ‘ll’s) are coming to visit The Green Door Store this September! Jaill is a lot like other bands; they’ve slept on your floor, you’ve made fun of their pillow cases, they’re not nearly as good at Excitebike as they said they were and although they all say they’re cool with cats, no one’s excited about sleeping at the cat house. So it should come as no surprise that, as bands sometimes do, they’ve made a new record. And that record is Traps, their second for Sub Pop. Traps is pretty, it’s moody, it pops. It has the scrappy, vengeful enthusiasm of a puppy stuck under a blanket. It’s an adorably grumpy bear just awoken from his long winter’s slumber, with a mangy heart rarely found outside of the stuffed animal bin of a Salvation Army. Click HERE to treat your ears to Waste A Lot Of Things.

Next up we have Vive La France! favourite Frenchman CHAPELIER FOU coming to see us at The Blind Tiger Club in October!

One-man bands used to look pretty similar. Big bass drum on the back, acoustic guitar, harmonica rack, rings on his fingers, bells on his toes… Louis Warynski looks nothing like this. In the digital age, a one-man band can make a plump old noise just from the push of a couple of buttons. Operating under the Chapelier Fou moniker (the French-literate among you won’t need us to tell you it translates as Mad Hatter), this is a young man from Metz who knows his musical chops and applies his dutiful study of classical violin to a distinctive brand of sweet, quirky electronica. He comes back to the UK after performances at Womad and The Great Escape to celebrate the release of his new album ‘Invisible’ which you watch a cheeky little teaser to HERE!

We are very very VERY excited to also announce that the fantastic MICACHU AND THE SHAPES will returning to Brighton at Coalition this October!

Following up the critically acclaimed ‘Jewellery’ the new album, released in July through Rough Trade, sees Micachu (AKA maverick twenty-something Mica Levi) and her band consolidating their reputation as one of the most adventurous and beguiling outfits in contemporary music. It’s not just on record that Micachu and co shine, however, as anyone who caught their set at this year’s Great Escape will tell you. Utilizing home-made and modified instruments (as well as, memorably, a vacuum cleaner) Mica always puts on an impressive display, extending the experimentation of her recorded exploits to the stage. The song ‘OK’ from the new album ‘Never’ can be listened to right HERE. Have a look!

And finally, after her beautifully wonderful performance at St George’s Church last year, once wasn’t enough for us so we had to welcome back BETH ORTON for another St George’s Church show this November! If you missed her show last year this one is not – we repeat – NOT to be missed!

A revered, award-winning artist, Beth Orton is renowned for her distinct and intensely expressive voice. Orton’s adroit songwriting and emotionally evocative vocal style – infusing intimate folk reminiscent of Nick Drake and Joni Mitchell with lilting and subtly atmospheric pop flourishes — has continuously evolved, yet always retained an intriguing mix of fragility and transcendence which never fails to move and inspire fans around the world.

Playing again with her husband, Foxtrot favourite Sam Amidon, tickets are now on sale at just a click away.. here!

In other news, in the next week we have our all important, exciting, must see, fabulously wonderful (you get the idea) JULY SHOWS! Kicking off tonight we have the glorious KIMYA DAWSON from the Mouldy Peaches and Juno soundtrack fame, playing an exclusive, intimate show at The Haunt. Tickets still available from here or on the door from 7pm. Don’t miss out on lovely songs like ‘Tire Swing’! Click here and get happy!

On Friday 13th (spooky) we have the fabulous PERFUME GENIUS back in Brighton for the second time this year! Lucky us! If you missed him at The Great Escape this year, don’t be a fool and miss him again! Tickets are still available from here.

Saturday is officially, of course, WILD BEASTS night at The Haunt and we can’t WAIT. An intimate Latitude warm up show with new material, what more do you want? Tickets? Well you can STILL get some! But hurry, with 4 days to go don’t leave it too late. Get yours here now.

And finally the gorgeous NITE JEWEL will be playing The Green Door Store next Tuesday. With her stylish electro-pop-ness and after a triumphant performance at this year’s South By Southwest, this will be the only time you’ll see her in such an intimate space. Her single ‘One Second Of Love’ is a real stuck in your head/but we don’t mind/singalong song. Have a listen for yourself here.

Well, that’s all from us! Don’t let the rain get you down when there’s so much going on in our lovely City. Enjoy!
