Musician, producer, writer, DJ, fronted by luminary Ben Watt returns as a trio, bringing his latest album Hendra (a collaboration with Bernand Butler, featuring a guest-appearance by David Gilmour) to life.

We are pleased to welcome Ben Watt Trio to Brighton!

Fronted by musician, DJ, record producer, radio producer, luminary Ben Watt first appeared on London indie, Cherry Red, as a young nineteen-year-old experimental folk artist. His first single was produced by the maverick Kevin Coyne. With his second – 1982’s ‘Summer into Winter’ EP – he coaxed alt-folk icon Robert Wyatt into collaborating on two tracks, and soon his work was drawing comparisons in the press to Tim Buckley and John Martyn.

His guitar-playing also set him apart, taking non-rock inspiration from Martyn, Joao Gilberto, Nick Drake and Vinni Reilly resulting in rich folk-jazz voicings. His early work culminated in his debut album – 1983’s ‘North Marine Drive’ (UK Indie Album Chart Top 10).

From there Watt turned to many different occupations from writing books to arranging for orchestra to DJ-ing and producing records. He has also been one half of a very famous duo. Now he returns as a trio, bringing his latest album Hendra to life (a collaboration with Bernand Butler, featuring a guest-appearance by David Gilmour).

“The acoustic-leaning song-cycle Hendra presents mature reflections on memory and loss.” – Q Magazine
