Much lauded US singer-songwriter Courtney Marie Andrews will be joining Melting Vinyl/Quarterhouse for this very intimate special headline show.
After more than a decade on the road, the Phoenix-born songwriter, poet, and painter finally had the space to process all the highs and lows of a life of constants. She was finally ready to make a record of triumph, while not completely forgetting the years that made her.

That record is her last album Loose Future. Her early pursuits led to her playing in punk bands in high school before becoming a touring member of Jimmy Eat World at just 18 years old, and from there Courtney went on to release a series of acclaimed albums. She garnered her first GRAMMY® Award nomination in the category of “Best Americana Album” for 2020’s “Old Flowers’’. Meanwhile, the record closed out 2020 on year-end lists from Good Morning America, Magnet, and Uncut. The New York Times raved, “Courtney Marie Andrews’s luminous new album, ‘Old Flowers,’ epitomises the aftermath of breaking up: loneliness, bittersweet memories, recriminations, regrets, temptations, lessons of experience.” Highlighting “Burlap String,” Rolling Stone claimed, “Driven by acoustic guitar, the song brings to mind classic Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell, but Andrews’ bell-clear voice and fearless message of introspection are unmistakably her own.” Of the album, Stereogum attested, “up front in all of it is Andrews’ voice, wringing beauty out of pain and self-realisation.” Along the way, she also unveiled her debut poetry collection, Old Monarch.

plus support from Dear Pariah

Having graced our stage many times, local favourite Dear Pariah will join Courtney Marie Andrews on the 20th August, bringing her yearning, introspective take on folk back to the Quarterhouse. Under the alias Dear Pariah since 2012, she’s a musician known to hibernate for periods of time due to sickness, bringing both heartbreak and humour to her increasingly rare stage performances. Straddling the line between folk traditions and innovation, her 2019 project ‘Bedroom Demos’ drew comparisons to Joni Mitchell and Tracy Chapman from Line of Best Fit in their 9/10 review.

Greensand (DJ)

Greensand are a song-writing duo based in South East Kent, who form a unique musical partnership as father and daughter. Greensand will be spinning a collection of tasteful Indie/Folk tunes in between live performances at this show.
