Create festival presents… from maverick pop success to now the modern day BBC 6 music loved Renaissance man and hugely acclaimed solo artist, Gaz Coombes. It’s an even more important event for both Create and Gaz as it is twenty years on from the festival starting and Supergrass’ first album; who better to celebrate this with us!

It’s been an extraordinary journey for Gaz Coombes. From flashily whiskered Ivor Novello and BRIT award winning pop tearaway to soundtracking summer of 2014 with that sublime cover of The Kinks ‘This Time Tomorrow’ for John Lewis, the mega-watt melodic genius responsible for ten Top 20 hits and six Top 20 albums is still staggering British music lovers with his seemingly effortless musical charms.

His more recent efforts, ‘One Of These Days’ and ‘Buffalo’ were playlisted and on repeat-play at BBC 6 music, and it is clear that Gaz is not only yet to reach his creative peak, but is still firmly established in the hearts of British music lovers.

Coombes’ latest solo album ‘Matador’, released earlier in the year, is an album in the classic sense, a record with the sort of emotional uplift which suggests it should be filed right next to Beck’s epic solo voyage ‘Sea Change’. ‘Matador’ has earned critical acclaim all across the board and it is unarguably the sound of one of Britain’s greatest songwriters facing the future with a flourish.

All hail his return to Ashford!

“This is a bold confessional and one made all the stronger by music that’s creative and daring.” – The Quietus
“A bastion of British songwriting.” – The Guardian
