Hospitality are a new pop voice. Formed in New York City in 2007, the three-piece balance guitar hooks with cultivated melody. Lead singer Amber Papini’s voice is influenced by the English accents of Richard Butler (via Kansas City); with her eccentric lyrics bringing the listener cinematic visions of cities and bitter-sweet remembrances of the past and never-quite-there present.
Hospitality’s self-titled début album arrived in 2012 via Merge Records and was met with general acclaim with deserving praise of being ‘beautifully catchy and slightly off-kilter. ‘ The main single from the album Friends of Friends got its music video debuted on Stereogum, featuring actress Alia Shawkat of Arrested Development and comedian Kurt Braunohler.
Hospitality’s sophomore Trouble will be released in 2014 and is anticipated to be just as acclaimed; an album that focuses on silence and to ‘let that empty space exist no matter what it might awaken or evoke.’
