Johnny Flynn & The Sussex Wit
plus special guests

Musician, songwriter and actor Johnny Flynn makes his highly anticipated return with The Sussex Wit, with new album Sillion (out March 24 on Transgressive Records).

‘Sillion’, Flynn’s fourth album, has grown episodically between his commitments to acting, composing, and his young family. It’s an album about the sacredness of man’s endeavour to connect with the earth while separated from it. It’s the sound of Flynn breathing in and breathing out. Much of the recording of Sillion was done whilst Flynn was starring in Martin McDonagh’s play ‘Hangmen’ where he was playing a psychopath, a darkness that noticeably seeps in to the lyrics with a celebration of exploring the baseness of human nature.

The titles of Flynn’s records have become a talismanic focus for him over the years, and ‘Sillion’ rings out like a bell, converging unlikely forces — friendship, politics, poetry – to capture the album’s colour and mood as a measure of its times. It is, by some measure, an unusual album; it’s influences counter, original, spare and strange, with a great love and passion for nature and humour for mankind.

‘Sillion’ sees Flynn reunited with The Sussex Wit: David Beauchamp (drums), Adam Beach (bass), Joe Zeitlin (cello), sister Lillie Flynn & Holly Holden (vocals), with guests Cosmo Sheldrake (electronics) and Dave Tattersall on lead guitar for ‘The Landlord’.

“poetic, and apple-sweet” – The Independent

“[Country Mile] is a fine album, testament to the smartly ornate take on English folk old and new as one and the same.” – Line of Best Fit
