American Julie Byrne was arguably 2017’s biggest break out story. Her second album Not Even Happiness took her from relative obscurity to all four corners of the globe. Without much time to draw breathe Byrne added passport stamps from most European countries, Scandinavia, Australia, Asia and New Zealand, as well as extensive jaunts around her homeland, routes that had been vividly archived in the album’s songs.
One place that holds a particular special connection is Brighton. There were queues around the block for her appearance at The Great Escape, a balmy evening followed in the summer with Basin Rock label mates Nadia Reid and Jim Ghedi and the year was topped off by well respected local record emporium Resident naming Not Even Happiness as their number 1 album of 2017.
Byrne will return to the south coast this June for what at the moment is her only major UK commitment to play St George‘s Church on Saturday 9th. Day trippers welcome.
