Some forty years on from her emergence on the late sixties folk circuit, Maddy Prior is one of the most enduring, influential and respected artists in British music, and we’re thrilled to announce that she’ll be joining us in Ashford for a very special performance.
Known for both her work as vocalist of Steeleye Span and numerous solo endeavours, Maddy’s career has been a memorable and prolific one, and she remains every bit as engaging an artist today as ever.
Maddy Prior has a history of collaborating with unexpected musicians. Looking to approach traditional and written material from interesting and varied perspectives. On this tour she teams up with Giles Lewin, a multi-talented instrumentalist and singer with a classical background diluted by some years in the band After Hours. He is a stalwart of the Carnival Band, another long-time collaboration of Maddy’s. They will be joined by Hannah James, who is now a part of Lady Maisry, and has been in the Demon Barbers and Kerfuffle. She brings singing, accordion, clog dancing and youth.
Maddy can also be heard on records as diverse as Ralph McTell’s ‘Streets…’ and Mike Oldfield’s ‘Incantations’, her unmistakable voice and performance style earning her a special place in the hearts of fans all round the globe.
“Superb range… Prior is in fine voice.” The Telegraph
