Scott Matthews
Ivor Novelllo winner, Scott Matthews, who has worked with the likes of Robert Plant and Danny Thomas, comes to Brighton to share with us his unique craftmanship.
West Midlands born and Ivor Novello winner, Scott Matthews, has garnered serious critical acclaim in his 10 year career to date and has taken this time to nurture his craft. He was always deliberate in his actions as witnessed in the time he originally spent as a guitarist before becoming the singer songwriter behind the groundbreaking debut album ‘Passing Stranger.’
Matthews’ father was a drummer and introduced Scott to such iconic artists as Marc Bolan, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan. Whilst his own experiences are often the inspiration for his writing, he is also influenced by articles in local newspapers and the work of writers such as Alan Sillitoe and Robert Frost.
With Matthews’ latest album Home part 1, we see a continuation of stories and characters from Scott’s previous songs. Musically the album is sonically diverse and engaging. Since creating his own homemade studio, Matthews has gained a greater understanding of the recording process and techniques. His homemade studio has given him space to experiment and to take his time in creating the best pieces of work he can. The result is a unique craftmanship.
“Matthews is a classy and original performer.” – The Guardian
“Matthews’ singing voice is beautiful and intense, and it is music that swirls around you, envelopes you in a rich, layered sound, and just makes you feel good.” – BBC
