Revelation St. Mary’s presents…

We are pleased to welcome Northumbrian folk group The Unthanks to St. Mary’s Church.

Fronted by sisters Rachel and Becky Unthanks, the group is a lovely family unit, taking influence from the traditional music of North-East England combined with more contemporary influences such as Steve Reich, Miles Davis and Sufjan Stevens.

Known for their timeless, unsentimental and quietly subversive tales of loss, fear, booze, brawls and sorrow, The Unthanks are honest storytellers outside of time, forging links between folk worlds old, new and other.

Nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and the only British folk representation in The Best Albums of the Decade (worldwide, all genres) in The Guardian and Uncut, The Unthanks have been everything from an all girl quartet (under their formername Rachel Unthank & The Winterset) to a 10 piece ensemble that includes a string quartet and trumpet, to their recent collaboration with the 30 piece National Champions of Great Britain, Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band.

“It is their ability to pare back extraneous matter and to stare unflinchingly into the very soul of a song that makes them a spellbinding experience” BBC Music

“Haunting, original and magnificent” The Guardian
