Record Store Day 2017
It’s Record Store Day 2017 very soon (Saturday 22 April) and we wanted to cast a light on all the record shops MV work with (by supplying them with gig tickets!) along the south-coast. It’s been 10 years since Record Store Day started, an important cause to keep music shops (and music in general) thriving.
Resident (Brighton)
A champion of the Brighton music scene, located in the centre of the North Laines, Resident has gone from strength to strength. After expanding their shop to cater to an increase in the demand for vinyl, they have hosted in-store sessions, and last year’s Record Store Day with Lauren Laverne hosting (and Fat Boy Slim making an appearance!).
Their Record Store Day: This year they are hosting a special event with 3 acts playing (includes British Sea Power), more details here. And check out all the releases they’ll be stocking here.
Bella Union Vinyl Shop (Brighton)
Bella Union and Melting Vinyl grew up together and have joyously been through the music scene together too! The BU shop opened last June in Ship Street in the Lanes and stocks all the acts on its roster (which is a brilliant roster so there’s no limit there!) MV has proudly promoted shows from the likes of Fleet Foxes, Bernard + Edith, BC Camplight, Beach House to Ezra Furman. Always a pleasure!

Union Music Store (Lewes)
Specialising in Americana / folk music, Union Music Store is a little gem in the town of Lewes. They also play host to our yearly Lewes Psychedelic Festival there, catering to some acoustic sessions in the shop.

The Vinyl Frontier (Eastbourne)
Eastbourne’s largest and leading record shop! The Vinyl Frontier has seen a similar success story to Resident, moving to a more central location and expanding their shop to cater to gigs downstairs in their adapted basement area, as well as opening up a café in the back. Hannah Peel stopped by there for last year’s RSD where she did a flying visit and performance around all the record shops.

The Vinyl Frontier have an action-packed day with live sessions by 90’s band My Life Story, Maz O’Connor and Harry Pane. Check out the rest of the day here.

Music’s Not Dead (Bexhill)
Just round the corner from De La Warr Pavilion, being so near the sea makes us feel fresh when we enter the doors to Music’s Not Dead.

MND have live sessions from a great variety of acts on the day! From Worry Dolls all the way to Moss Clarkson. Check it out here.
Wow & Flutter (Hastings)
Also a newer discovery for us, Wow & Flutter stock an array of old and new vinyl, an eccentric range of books/comics, along with some used CDs. We’re happy to have them represent MV shows all the way in Hastings!

Hot Salvation (Folkestone)
Located in the cultural quarter of Folkestone, Hot Salvation have worked with MV and stocked tickets for many shows we’re programming at the Quarterhouse venue. They were also the forerunners in helping us to produce the first Psychedelic Festival (earlier in the year), as well as hosting in-store sessions for some of the artists that have passed through the fine town.
