2024: A Melting Vinyl Round-Up

Our 2024 was packed with a diverse selection of bands and artists bringing you sounds that spanned many genres. From alt-rock and pop-punk to emotionally rich ballads, here are a few of the highlights:

Personal trainer + Pom Poko + The Itch at Concorde 2, Brighton (Friday 26th April)

This show brought together Dutch septet Personal Trainer and Norwegian pop-punk group Pom Poko. Both acts combine immense musical talent with a gritty and raw tone through introspective lyrics and pop anthems with an alt-rock edge. They were supported by the up-and-coming group The Itch, with infectious melodies and a rotating cast of live members from the underground indie scene.

Group Listening + Calming River at The Rose Hill, Brighton (Friday 14th June)

Paul Jones and Stephen Black are the extraordinarily talented musicians behind Group Listening. With influences including Ernest Hood, Sam Gendel, Japanese ambient music, as well as the environmental and new age music of the 80s and 90s – their music is a unique amalgamation of many genres spanning many decades.

Route 500 + Noah Yorke at The Prince Albert, Brighton (Friday 13th September)

Brighton-based Route 500 pursues rawness over perfection and skillfully balances dreamy guitar melodies with nostalgic vocal tones. Their music aims to capture the darker inner workings and depths of the human psyche with a dynamic sound. They were joined by singer-songwriter Noah Yorke, whose organic instrumentation and emotionally rich lyrics were a perfect addition to the lineup.

Joan As Police Woman at St George’s Church, Brighton (Thursday 10th October)

Innovative singer-songwriter Joan As Police Woman has a sophisticated and jazz-infused sound that features captivating melodies and rich instrumentation. Her latest album, ‘Lemons, Limes and Orchids’ (released September 20th, 2024), is packed full of smooth vocal layers over polished production.

AK/DK + Thick Richard + Massive Luxury Overdose + Bunty (Thursday 31st October/Friday 1st November)

AK/DK is a Brighton-based duo known best for holding a unique space in the music landscape. With their innovative sound and use of improvisation, their music combines punk-inspired instrumentation with layers of synth-filled production. They were joined by critically acclaimed spoken word artist Thick Richard. His witty and brutally honest approach to covering topics like social media and the social climate was a perfect addition to the lineup. Also supporting AK/DK are gothic post-punk band Massive Luxury Overdose and vocal-looping pop pioneer Bunty.
