Our Picks of This Year’s Great Escape Festival!
With only 8 weeks to go exactly, the news has finally hit us. The Great Escape line up has finally arrived!
With the final touches of the line up announced this morning, The Great Escape is one weekend in Brighton that pulls everyone together, whether it’s local, national or international music types. Here at Melting Vinyl HQ, we love to get stuck in to the madness of the weekend!
Now, we know what you’re thinking. We’ve been talking about this guy a lot recently, but that’s only because everyone else seems to want a piece of him. For his second Great Escape year after a storming success at SXSW last week, Melting Vinyl favourite Luke Sital-Singh. We first fell in love with this chap back in July after supporting our intimate sold out Wild Beasts show. He then went on to support The Staves for their autumn tour. And after a special performance at last year’s Great Escape. we’re really looking forward to seeing him again, armed with his new single Bottled Up Tight which you can listen to here!
Another Melting Vinyl favourite sets to blow you away at this years Great Escape – after a fantastic year signing to Little Big Agency AND Blood And Biscuits label, the mighty Physics House Band! Self-proclaimed instrumental ‘space-math’, this Brighton 3 piece supported Mercury Music Prize Nominees Roller Trio back in December at Komedia, and what a perfect fit they were, with Roller Trio themselves tweeting on the night “Physics house band tearing it the f**k up on stage right now, powerful stuff!” These boys ARE NOT to be missed at The Great Escape weekend!
And finally, back in November we brought to you the Oui Love Tour, supported from the French Music Bureau & The Institut Français and as key feature of previous Great Escapes, Oui Love has showcased the best up and coming French music to the UK, welcoming the likes of Housse de Racket, The Shoes, Team Ghost and Anoraak. Last year’s Oui Love Tour bought you Juveniles and Jupiter, but for this year’s Great Escape with their 2nd trip to Brighton playing in May will be Yan Wagner! The warmth of pop, a sombre voice and the heat of the dancefloor are the defining features of this Parisian, known as the singer of electronic pop. Oui Love Tour back in November was praised by our mates at Brighton Noise, and an excited Brighton festival reviewer Peter Fitzgerald describes him as ‘French dance act, fantastic production and catchy tunes’ and is awarded with a 10/10 on his (very funny) Great Escape reviews, have a read here!
Now at Melting Vinyl HQ, we say the same thing every year but it does indeed look like this year’s Great Escape WILL be the best one yet!
This week, we announced that Mr Peter Roe of Laura Marling’s Band fame will be playing an intimate show at The Greys Pub on Southover Street in the heart of Hanover. Tickets are on sale now here, and with the show being 3 days before The Great Escape, come and wet your appetite for some intimate folk before the madness of the weekend.
Also please note that TEEN’s show on the 3rd of April at The Haunt has been moved to The Hope. All original tickets are still valid, and new tickets will be on sale tomorrow.
Don’t forget that Die! Die! Die! will be at The Green Door Store tonight with support from Negative Pegasus and Dissonants. Tickets just £10 on the door tonight and they open at 7:30pm. See you all there!
