One of the world’s most exciting and innovative folk bands are to pay a visit to the Brighton Ballroom this November!
Having made triumphant performances at festivals around the world and released two heavily acclaimed full-lengths (a third, ‘Race The Loser’ will be released in September), Lau are undoubtedly among the biggest names in contemporary folk. The Scottish three-piece consist of Kris Drever on guitar and vocals, Martin Green on Accordian and Aidan O’Rourke on fiddle, and they won ‘Best Group’ at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for three years running from 2008 to 2010. All three are respected soloists and virtuoso musicians in their own right, with a collaborative track record that takes in everyone from Eddi Reader to Joan Baez and Cream’s Jack Bruce.
In front of an audience the trio are renowned for pushing their compositions and each other to new heights. With seemingly telepathic musical communication, ten minute epics are infused with a spectrum of emotion: the perfect foil for Kris’s poignant vocal numbers and some eminently quotable stage banter. After collaborative releases ‘Evergreen’ with Karine Polwart and ‘Ghosts’ with Adem, the trio’s latest full-length is a real treat for fans, and marks another milestone in their illustrious career to date.
