Teilhard Frost & Jock Tyldesley: A brand new duo w Teilhard Frost & Jock Tyldesley: A brand new duo with the best of old time music!

Teilhard and Jock found a shared love of Appalachian fiddle tunes around a full table, licking plates and dancing in the kitchen. They’re both tall, rather polite, love great food and play twin fiddles and occasional banjo, and who knows what else too!

Canadian musician and instrument maker, Teilhard (tay-YAR) Frost specialises in traditional folk music with a focus on Appalachian old time music.
He has spent the last twenty years touring with the sensational rag-time outfit Sheesham, Lotus, and ‘Son. Other work include The Os project with Jason Mercer (Ani diFranco, Ron Sexsmith), The Complete Recordings of Hezekiah Proctor with L'il Andy, Succeeder with Michael Duguay, Jenny Whiteley, Joey Wright, and miles of studio session work for over 50 albums and film. He currently lives on Wolfe Island in the St. Lawrence River, straddling the border of Canada and the United States. There he makes banjos, his supper and his bed.

Jock Tyldesley is perhaps best known for his fiddling in Cajun bands such as The Flatville Aces and the Bearcats, as well as more off-the-wall antics with The New Rope String Band and The Chipolatas.
He also nurtures a long-time passion for Southern Appalachian old time fiddle and banjo tunes, whilst touring with his regular bands and US acts such as Eddie LeJeune, The Dirk Powell Band, Sheryl Cormier, Martha Scanlan, Beverly Smith and Carl Jones and Balfa Toujours.

Patrick Fitzgerald plays the songs of Kitchens of Patrick Fitzgerald plays the songs of Kitchens of Distinction and Stephen Hero + special guests at The Prince Albert, Brighton on Tuesday 16th September.

Performing solo under his own name for the first time in 30 years, Patrick Fitzgerald plays songs from previous incarnations, including legendary 1990s shoegaze pioneers Kitchens of Distinction and his introspective singer/songwriter solo act Stephen Hero. Patrick will be joined by special guests at each show to celebrate music from 1989-2025. Expect songs from old Kitchens dream-pop classics to heartfelt songs from his latest solo album Convalescence.
Patrick is one of those musicians and gifted lyricists who really knows how to capture a person's heart and mind. Thankfully he continues to do this...

For the Prince Albert evening show Patrick is delighted to be joined by composer, cellist and improviser Semay Wu and original Kitchens of Distinction guitarist and songwriter Julian Swales. This will be the first time in over 30 years that Patrick and Julian will have played live together.

Gemma Rogers @gemma_rogers_music_ + special guest Bailey Lanes @baileylanesofficial play at The Folklore Rooms @thefolklorerooms #Brighton on Thursday 12th June.

Pianist, poetic storyteller and producer Bailey Lanes delves into her own experiences to provide vivid musical narratives with influences of the 90's Trip Hop scene. Organic sounds meld with pads and reverbs as layered vocals create an ethereal intimacy.
"Punky and danceable... Gemma Rogers packs a whole 21st-century kitchen sink drama into her tracks..."

Gemma is writing for her second album. Working with producers EAMES, Gareth Ashton (The Verve, Rolling Stones, Tina Turner) and Mike Tournier (of dance legends Fluke), Gemma has developed a more immediate sound to carry her snapshot lyrical styling, which delivers provocative personal and political convictions in an emotionally direct and often humorous way.

New Show 🧡 Gwenno (solo) @gwennosaunders + QU New Show 🧡

Gwenno (solo) @gwennosaunders + QUINQUIS quinquismusic play St Luke's @stlukeschurch_brighton #Brighton on Friday 14th November.

Forty-three years into her life, Gwenno Saunders has been many people. The disaffected Cardiff schoolgirl; the teenage Las Vegas dancer; the singer in indie pop group The Pipettes. There was a turn in a Bollywood film, a nightclub tour, a stint cleaning floors in an East London pub. Long before she would become an acclaimed solo songwriter in both Welsh and Cornish, a winner of the Welsh Music Prize, a nominee for the Mercury, a Bard of the Cornish Gorsedh, there were the days of Nevada, London, Brighton; of Irish dancing, techno clubs, messiness and chaos.

Utopia, Saunders’ fourth solo album, is an extraordinary exploration of all of these selves. These are songs of discovery and range from floor-fillers to piano ballads, via contributions from Cate Le Bon and H. Hawkline, and encompass William Blake, a favourite Edrica Huws poem, and the Number 73 bus.

It is her finest work to date, Utopia began quite differently to its predecessors. First came the realisation that in order to capture this specific time in her life she would need to use English. “I think the way I’ve managed to write in English is by acknowledging that I can’t translate a lot of memories,” she says. “I’ve found that idea really important to explore. I think if I’d just stayed in Wales, and I hadn’t lived anywhere else or experienced any other culture then it would be really different. I would’ve made records in Welsh, but I left home at 16.”

'Utopia' - Released on Heavenly Recordings, July 11th.

QUINQUIS, the first female electronic music producer composing in Breton language, is redefining the boundaries of music in Celtic languages with a sound that is as rooted in history as it is relentlessly forward-thinking.

The psych-tinged disco of British Birds @itsbritis The psych-tinged disco of British Birds @itsbritishbirds + special guests play The Prince Albert @theprincealbertbrighton #Brighton on Wednesday 8th October

Hatched in 2023 via tape loops and cheap nylon stringed guitars, Chorley-based British Birds soar from the depths of psych-tinged melancholy to the heights of disco-doused dystopia and back. From within the precariously soundproofed walls of their inconspicuous makeshift arthouse they meticulously craft their sound; dedicating themselves to the whole craft from recording, producing and releasing their records, to screenprinting their merch.

Ellie’s grab-you-and-don’t-let-you-go basslines, Mikey’s thumping drums which cut like Keith Moon’s poltergeist and Emma’s earwormy synth and sweet n shriek harmonies bolster frontman Bobby’s cathartic vocals and staunchly stylistic guitar which jangles like Harrison’s inner demon. The four-piece have impressed fans around the country and beyond during tour support slots for The Lovely Eggs, Pale Blue Eyes and The Bug Club and their 3 live sessions for BBC 6 Music’s Marc Riley.

In response to the recent developments of Covid-19

Dear Melting Vinyl supporters,

At present we are in the process of finding out what the effect of the UK Government’s latest advice to the public to avoid contact in social spaces means in terms of our upcoming events.

It may mean some shows planned for the near future could be postponed to a later date in order to safeguard our local community.

Melting Vinyl are dedicated to supporting artists and the local live music venues and we are currently in close communication with both – we will keep you all updated as soon as any news comes in on our social media.

Many thanks for your patience and understanding and please bear with us as we navigate through this unprecedented time.

All the best,

Anna & The Team
